In the 2023/24 academic year Disability Services introduced deadlines for when appropriate evidence for Student Support Plans need to be provided by, in order for individual exam arrangements to be organised ahead of exams. See below for more information and what to do if you miss a deadline.
In order for individual exam arrangements to be organised ahead of exams, appropriate evidence for new Student Support Plans as well as organising Support Plan updates needs to be submitted by specific deadlines.
If you miss this deadline then new or updated in-person exam arrangements cannot be implement for your upcoming exams.
There are three deadlines across the academic year for the three exam periods in January, May & August. You can find the current academic year's deadlines on the Disability Services Home page.
In this situation you have the option to apply for exceptional circumstances.
This is because we can consider applications related to students being in the process of getting or updating a Student Support Plan but it's not in place yet or it's in place but your evidence was provided after the deadline. Here you can apply to defer your exams which entails the following:
"You may still sit the exams on the original date and wait for the marks to be released before deciding whether or not to resit the exam during the resit period. If you do decide to resit, the original marks are cancelled and the marks for your resit exams stand even if they are lower than the original. But, you can also decide to not sit the exam on the original date and opt to just take it during the resit period."
This gives you some flexibility with the option to take the exam during a time when your Student Support Plan is in place and your adjustments can be implemented.
To apply for exceptional circumstances, use the link above where you'll find a link to the online form to complete. You will need to provide evidence of being in the process of applying for or updating a Student Support Plan (e.g. correspondence, forms) or evidence of the condition the plan will be for or is incorporating.
As the department manages the online exams, we have more flexibility to implement exam adjustments with less notice.
For extra time adjustments we can manage these fairly easily with not too much notice. If there is anything more complex, we will do our best to implement it depending on what is involved and the time we have to organise it.
While we can be more flexible with timelines, we can still only implement adjustments if a student support plan in place ahead of the exams taking place.
