As a committee, we noticed that some of the accessible toilets in the department weren't always up to spec... so we started a campaign to rectify this.
In the summer of 2024, we ran a mini audit of the accessible toilets and found that for a number of them:
The emergency red pull chord was not always hanging freely and accessibly.
The transfer space by the toilet was not always clear.
Two things that could easily be fixed.
In the Summer of 2025, in consultation with the psychology department, we rectified these issues as best we could:
We freed all red chords to make sure they are hanging freely and added a notice asking people to kindly keep them this way.
Where space allowed, we adjusted the placement of bins to clear transfer spaces as much as possible.
Special thanks go to:
Mia Hanson who spear headed this campaign, conducted the audit and helped to make these changes.
Archie Summers who helped with making these adjustments.
Samuel Harris for making the signs.
