Accessible Psychology Tours
Join us for a tour of the psychology department, which has been designed with disability in mind!
We running 2 tours to help give as many people a chance to join us as possible and there is no need to sign up - just turn up!
Meet us in the Psychology Entrance either on:
Friday 6th October at 2pm
or
Thursday 12th October at 3.30pm
Followed by a small coffee and chat in PS/C/108 to help connect you with other psychology students.
Why are we running this Accessible Tour?
As a committee dedicated to supporting disability, we know first hand how challenging and confusing it can be when you first start at University - particularly when you may have extra challenges linked to a disability. Whether the disability is due to physical health, mental health or a neurodiversity.
So we have designed a tour to help orientate you to the whole department, full of all the information we would have liked to have been told and shown about from the get go. And we're following this with an optional small coffee and chat event to help you connect with other students and hear more about our events.
How have we made this tour accessible?
For all level changes, tour goers can use either a lift or stairs to suit individual needs/preferences.
Rest stops have been built into the tour
Where possible we will try and conduct the tour in smaller groups to help support differing sensory and social preferences.
Ear deafenders and sensory toys are welcome to be used during the tour.
Time will be spent to explain the departmental room numbering system which will then be referred to and highlighted during the tour.
The coffee & chat event at the end is optional, so please do not feel like you need to stay if it's not for you.
Is there anything else we can do to help make this tour accessible to you?
Further from the above, if there is anything in particular we can try and do to make sure this tour is accessible for you, please email: amanda.hickey@york.ac.uk and we'll do our best to accomodate you.
