Making Friends

Tips on making friends:

  1. Start by asking questions. Where do they come from? What school did they come from?

  2. Be a good listener. Take time to listen to what people have to say.

  3. Wish people a good morning/bore da or a good afternoon/prynhawn da.

  4. Share a little about yourself. You don't need reveal too much, but think about what hobbies you have or what you did over the summer.

  5. Do kind things. Holding a door, helping with a bag or helping find someone's way are all great ways of showing your kindness

  6. Make them laugh. This doesn't mean shouting out jokes in class, you can be funny in lots of way and it is a great ice-breaker

  7. Get together outside of class time. You may take the opportunity to join new clubs outside of school like swimming, rugby or netball, but you can also start mixing with your new friends safely outside of school.

  8. Join an activity. There will be lots of extra-curricular opportunities for you to join inside and outside of school. Even if you've never played sports, acted or sung, starting secondary school is a great reason to take up a new activity or hobby.
