Mae’r cwrs yma yn un galwedigaethol sy’n ffocysu ar y defnydd a wneir o wyddoniaeth mewn sefydliadau gwyddonol neu mewn sefydliadau sy’n defnyddio gwyddoniaeth. Gall y cwrs BTEC arwain at yrfaoedd llewyrchus mewn sawl maes gan gynnwys peirianneg sifil, peirianneg drydanol, peirianneg mecanegol a nifer o brentisiaethau modern sy’n ddibynnol ar unigolion gyda sgiliau gwyddonol, mathemategol a chyfrifiadurol. Yn ogystal, gall arwain at astudio gwyddoniaeth ymhellach mewn prifysgol.
Bydd y cwrs yn rhoi gradd Basio, Clod neu Anrhydedd. O fewn y maes Gwyddoniaeth Gymhwysol bydd y gwaith yn cael ei asesu’n fewnol ac yna’n cael ei gymedroli. Nid oes arholiadau sy’n cael eu marcio’n allanol. Mae’r gwaith i gyd ar ffurf portffolio.
Derbynnir disgyblion sydd wedi llwyddo i gael C neu’n uwch yn y gwyddorau ar wahân, C neu’n uwch mewn TGAU Gwyddoniaeth Gymhwysol neu Glod yn y cwrs BTEC lefel 2. Yn ogystal, gofynnir bod disgyblion wedi derbyn gradd B neu yn uwch mewn mathemateg ar lefel TGAU.
The Edexcel specification is followed on this course. The Certificate takes one year to complete and is equivalent to one AS level. The Subsidiary Diploma follows in the second year and is equivalent to a full A level. The contents of the course are as follows:-

1 mandatory unit is completed in addition to 2 optional units to gain 30 credits at level 3. These units are;
Health and safety in the workplace
Properties and applications of engineering materials
Electrical and electronic properties
SUBSIDIARY DIPLOMA
3 optional units are completed to gain 30 credits at level 3. The units that we have chosen are;
Mathematics for technicians
Engineering drawing for technicians
Theory of flight
This course is vocational in context and focuses on the use of science in scientific organisations and in organisations using science. The BTEC course can lead to a successful career in several fields including; civil engineering; electrical engineering; mechanical engineering; and a number of modern apprenticeships that rely on individuals with good mathematical, scientific and information technology skills. In addition, the course can lead to studying science to a higher level at university.
The course provides a Pass, Merit and Distinction grade which is assessed internally and is then verified. There are no examinations to be marked externally. All of the work is portfolio based.
Pupils accepted on the course will have succeeded in gaining a C or above in the separate sciences, a C or above in the GCSE Applied Science course or a Merit in the BTEC level 2 course. Furthermore, due to the mathematical nature of the course, it is expected that pupils will have achieved a B grade, or higher, at GCSE level.
