The in-class project I’m most proud of is my Royal River Watershed relief tile. This is a colorful ceramic that depicts an apple tree and what it needs to thrive. I’m very proud of how this turned out and the worms and bees in the apples are my favorite because of the small details they add. I think I did surprise myself in these classes because while I knew I wanted to work with nature a lot in my art, I didn’t think that I would dive so deep into thinking and researching it. I think when you make something you’re proud of, it makes you see other challenges in a new light. They seem “easier” or at least you have more faith in yourself, and you start to believe that you are capable of creating beautiful pieces.
One very informative project our class worked on was the value portraits. This assignment really helped me learn and think about value and shades and how you can create a realistic image using just 7 shades. Another important project was the relief tiles. This taught me the importance of art and how it sends a message. Learning about apple trees and everything they need to live helped me put more detail and thought into my tile. These projects have changed the way I think about art because they showed how art may be very different for each person and how it all looks different, but it all has meaning behind it and tells a story.
This art class has really helped create basic skills for my art in the future. Next year I’ll be taking drawing & painting and ceramics 1. The knowledge I learned in this class will help my classes for the next four years. I now have experience working with clay and using colors and values to help create realistic paintings. Throughout high school, I hope I’m able to take a sculpture class because that sounds very interesting to me and that was one of my favorite activities we did in class.
As an artist I love creating art that revolves around nature, I find trees especially fun to draw or paint, and nature is what inspires my art.
In this class I hope to create more abstract art. I usually stick to creating things that are real or that I can see but I want to branch out more.
I also hope we work with charcoal in class because I think that would be really fun and could be very interesting if I drew a tree using charcoal.

I chose this piece of art because it's one of my favorites and I think Van Gogh was an amazing artist that managed to create abstract pieces that still looked like real life things.
