This project can stretch your creative process because it restricts any ideas you could come up with to a smaller group of what you’re allowed to do. But at the same time, this helped me branch out from the usual to try different mediums and different styles. For example, creating the lines made me move to abstract drawings, and adding texture made me think in 3D which is not something I’d normally do.
Working in conjunction with another person's creative decisions affects my decisions because they make me think more deeply about what I want my next move to be. When I see what someone adds to my project I want to add something that will work with the composition as a whole so I usually go out of my usual style or subject. For instance, I didn’t draw any trees on anyone's piece during this project because it didn’t fit with any of the compositions.
This project showed me that I'm somewhat of a selfish artist. I like what I like and even though I want to try working with other people's ideas and art, I have a very narrow focus on what I want my piece to look like. This will help me in the future because I know that I work best on my own with my ideas that are usually static. This will also help me be able to completely turn around on a project and restart if I need to. I had to start completely over with my poster with this collage because it wasn’t fun to work on after and I wasn’t feeling confident in what I wanted the subject to be. But I was able to turn it around quickly and make something I'm even more proud of and would want to be displayed with my name.
