"Birch Polypore," 12x10", Acrylic on Canvas, Band-Aids
I’m very proud of my work over the last few months; it’s a clear representation of my hard work and dedication to trees. I think my favorite piece was my very first with the birch trees, just because I love birches so much. I love the 3D details I was able to add to many of my pieces, and the practice it took was actually very enjoyable. I relearned how to knit, and I’ve still kept up with that! Some of my pieces aren’t my favorite works, those being the Redwoods park poster or the last yarn bombing work, but I’m still very proud of all my works. I really enjoy my leaf map piece because it was out of the box thinking, and it’s different from the others because more of the focus is on the picture itself.
Because of this body of work, I’ve grown more as an artist through different mediums and continued my love for trees. I was able to paint and create many nature scenes, which is always my favorite, and I think I was able to “branch” out to show trees in different ways. I was able to show new topics about trees and from new perspectives, which opened my eyes to different ways of showing what I love. Next up, I think I might try creating pieces with animals, especially birds. I also want to continue to use more pastels because those were really interesting, and I might try more sewn art.
