Essential Question: What are the necessary skills to create a convincing still life drawing?
Purpose:
To create a still-life drawing that demonstrates understanding of angles & ellipses in perspective, along with using a chosen and conscious mark-making technique to describe form;
To understand value by creating a good range of values between black & white to help make the objects appear 3D;
To demonstrate quality craftsmanship and good composition skills in a drawing.
Artists Studied: Henry Moore, Giorgio Morandi, Kerry James Marshall, Vincent van Gogh, Winslow Homer, John Whalley
Reflection
I used a mixture of both Morandis and Moores techniques. I overlaid and hardened my lines where there were shadows, and there was good contrast despite the lines being so loose. In certain areas I used very messy lines and in others I used more straight and neat lines.
I definitely learned a lot during this period in regards to value and three-dimensionality. I think my final art piece shows a lot of improvement from my first ones. I paid more attention to darkening my shadows and taking my time with the drawing process in general. I was also more aware about outlining and did my best to avoid it.
