Final Reflection:
The thing that I am most proud of that I made in this class is my Pueblo coil pot. This is because It took lots of time to create the pueblo pot but once I figured out how to make the coil I found it to be a pretty satisfying and effective way to make a pot. I also found it very satisfying to carve away the underglaze that I put down to leave behind my soccer field designs and staircase design.
I think that at the beginning of the year, the pinch pot unit was one of the most informative and interesting units. It was very helpful to have done the pinch pots at the start of the year because it gave me very good baseline knowledge on how to work with clay. I found that I went back in my head a lot to the pinch pot unit and the useful techniques that I learned in this unit.
I think that I met my goals pretty well. I stayed up to date with my work through the landing doc which was one of my goals that really helped me keep up with my work. I also was able to create artwork that not only looked very cool and beautiful but also had practical everyday uses. Unfortunately, I was not able to use the wheel to throw clay onto but I think that may come in a later class. In all, I feel that I met my goals pretty well.
First thoughts for the semester
How would you compare ceramics with other forms of art (differences, similarities, etc.)
I think that ceramics is an art form that has the ability to create art that is much more practical and can have everyday uses compared to an art form such as painting. That said it also has the ability to make some very cool-looking sculptures that are nice to look at.
What will you do to help yourself stay organized this semester?
Use the landing doc a lot to not forget homework. I will also add the assignments to my homework note pad.
Having seen that ceramics can have all sorts of forms and surfaces, what might inspire YOU to make your work this semester?
I am inspired to make something that has a use but also can be a piece of art
What would you like to make or do with clay this semester?
I would like to learn how to throw clay on the wheel thing.
