PURPOSE
To demonstrate understanding of accurate perspective of cylinders and cubes;
To use a variety of mark-making strategies to practice and demonstrate the value changes on forms, helping them appear 3D
To practice using a variety of media to draw a still life
Artists studied: Henry Moore, Vincent van Gogh, Giorgio Morandi
So far I have noticed that the method of measuring my subject with my pencil to figure out the scale of the object has really helped me know how to draw the subject. My favorite way of showing value so far is either the cross-hatching method or the controlled scribble method. I am a big fan of how easy it is to get the cross hatches very darkly but it is kind of challenging to show lesser and lighter value with them. The controlled scribble is also good at getting very dark but it's also very easy to get it to fade out into a lighter section.
As I begin my final, realistic still life there are a few things that I need to work on. I think that I need to work on showing perspective in whatever subject it is that I'm drawing. I have found in my four practice still lifes that sometimes the square block that I draw appears to be a little bit off or a bit wonky. I also think that I need to work on making sure it is really clear where my subject starts and ends. In the practice drawings sometimes I would make the shadow to dark or the object to dark and it would get lost in the shadow. So I need to really make sure that it is clear where my object is.
