Final thoughts
Two of the most important concepts I learned this semester
The first important concept I learned this semester, is how to use different marks while drawing a still life, to show lightness and darkness. When we did our still life project, we were not allowed to shade anything to show shadows or lightness and darkness. Instead, we had to use different amounts of black marks to show value. I used the method of cross-hatching to get this across and I think that it is a very useful thing to know how to do in the future art classes I partake in. At first, I was unsure if it would look good without being able to shade with a pencil or something like that, but in the end, I was very impressed with how good and realistic my shadows looked, especially from afar. Another important concept I learned was how to mix the three primary colors into many more different colors. We did a lot of assignments in which we worked with blending colors and learning about the color wheel. We made our own color wheel and also had a quiz about the color wheel. We also practiced making monochromatic colors by adding white to colors to make tints and adding the colors complement to make intensities. In the end, we brought it all together at the end with our endangered animal tile. in this project, we had to mix all of our colors only using the primary colors and white.Â
Assignment I am most proud of
I think that my still-life drawing is the best work of art that I have done this semester. I really enjoyed making it and I learned a lot while doing so. This impacted my learning in the sense that I learned so much about using positive and negative space. I learned a lot about using cross hatches to show light and dark instead of just shading and I am very happy with what came out in the end.
My goal for this semester is to get an overall better understanding for art in general. I also want to explore different forms of artwork so maybe I can spark my interest in a different type of art and then i can take more classes in highschool about that artform.A reason that I make art is to be able to put what is going on in my head onto a piece of paper or other artform such as a sculpture or photograph. I get inspired to make art most of the time from everyday things that i see throughout my life. That said sometimes i dont get inspired by anything. I hope to improve on my drawing skills. I have always wanted to get better at drawing because i enjoy doing it but i was never really good at it so i didnt do it much. So hopefully this class will help me improve on it so ican do it more. I hope to maybe learn about art history because that is something that my parents studied in college and really enjoyed it so i want to give it a shot.
