Life moves so quickly that I tend to lose sight of the small details that surround me. This photo contains several objects that show a peak into my mother's personality. Things like aged books, fresh flowers in the middle of winter, post cards and letters from the people she holds near, and a candle that never fails to bring familiarity and comfort into a space. The distinct table runner leads the viewers eyes down the array of objects, telling a story of my mother's curated space.
This photo reminds me of when I was a kid, peaking around corners to listen to the grown-up conversations I could never understand. Rather than listening to a person talk, this photo focuses on the blurred record in the background. I used the lines from the planks of wood to direct the viewers attention forward however the wall still stands as a barrier, separating the viewer from the subject.
Standing on an empty path with my family behind me I immediately noticed the rays of sunlight beaming through the clouds. It reminded me of how in dark times, possibilities and hope will still shine from underneath. I used the path as a leading line to bring the viewers eyes towardsthe light on the water.
