Purpose:
To learn about Pop Art and Artists associated with the art movement;
To create your own Pop Art inspired by Andy Warhol;
To work individually to follow directions and problem solve;
To use creative problem solving skills to learn new tools and techniques in Photoshop.
The process for these photos was very difficult for me. I had to use Photoshop, which I had never used to change the colors of a picture before. I had to become completely comfortable with all the new tools and complex buttons on Photoshop.
Here were the steps I followed:
I took a photo of myself & imported it into Photoshop on my laptop
I resized my photo to make sure it would make a square
I desaturated & posterized my photo
This was the hardest step: selecting the subject & making sure I didn't have any of the backgrounds in my selection, then bringing it to a new layer to be able to duplicate.
I duplicated my photos to make sure they were arranged in a grid to make a perfect square
Working on each picture & layer separately, I changed the colors by experimenting with filters, gradient maps, and colors. I tried to use the same 4 colors and alternate them between the background and subject.
I did the whole process again with the pop art object and tried to keep the colors similar to make it look like part of a larger collection.
Pop Art Object
These are my pop art object! I chose to photograph two popular brands of chips - Cheetos & Doritos.
Pop Art Self-Portrait
Here's a self-portrait! I like the colors I used for this and I had a good time experimenting with the gradient map - even if it was more challenging for me.
Here are objects I found around the school connected to pop culture.
