Project Based Learning
A Project Based Learning ELO is a semester-long learning experience driven by student interests and supported by an in-school coach and a community mentor. An ELO gives you the time and support to dive in and do something different. Juniors, seniors, (and sophomores with special permission may participate.
Is there a cause you're interested in? A local or global issue that matters to you? Is there something you'd like to be good at? Or get better at? Do you have a hobby or extracurricular activity that you love?
Past Project Based Learning ELOs have included:
Learning music composition
A comic book relating some of Yarmouth's history
Work with an after-school group that combined art and environmental activism
Developing an app for the Yarmouth Food Pantry
Learning cartooning
Designing cakes
Building a skateboard
In order to receive credit for a Project Based Learning ELO, a student must complete the following components:

Connect with an outside mentor in your chosen field of study. A mentor provides feedback, gives suggestions and serve as a resource throughout the semester. (Your ELO Coach can help you find one!)
Reflect weekly on your progress including discussing your progress with your ELO Coach or mentor and identify next steps or changes to help meet your learning goals. .
Research your project through online and print materials, videos, informational interviews or work based learning experiences. Create and submit a works cited/resource list.
Develop a tangible Final Product related to your essential question and learning goals that demonstrates your knowledge and skills on the subject.
Prepare a Final Presentation to summarize your learning and showcase your product. The presentation will be in a small group including your ELO Coach, mentor, advisor, parent(s) and an administrator.
