To understand how a line can be used to create a three-dimensional form
To create a sculpture that considers balance and repetition, variety and emphasis
To consider where artists find their inspiration
I see variety throughout my entire sculpture. I used different size ellipses and loops to create an interesting sculpture that took up the entire space. I also used a loop dangling from the center of my sculpture to create emphasis. Most of the examples that I saw of emphasis included a piece of paper or a clutter of reeds, and I attempted to create something different.
After constructing my reed sculpture, I learned that sculptures can take many forms. They don’t have to be made out of clay or metal, and can be as simple as gluing damp reeds together. I also learned that sculptures can be more abstract and use negative space (the gaps in the reed sculpture).
