Our School

OUR CENTER AND OUR HISTORY

Our center is the Secondary School Institut Josefina Castellvi

Josefina Castellví i Piulachs School is located in Viladecans, a city with 45,000 inhabitants located 15 km from Barcelona.

The public INS Josefina Castellví i Piulachs was born in the 2012-2013 academic year to respond to the schooling needs of the population growth in Viladecans

2013-14 academic year...

We were moved to the current building on Remolar Street. We are sharing a building with the Enxaneta School, but we have our own differentiated spaces as secondary school spaces.

2018-19 academic year...

We have just completed our high school studies and it was the first year that we had the first promotion of 2nd.

Our logo reflects that, within this innovative and quality training, there are many important aspects that are discovered when you look inside the institution itself.

DEVELOPPE & CONSOLIDATE PROJECTE

The main objective of our center is to provide students with a quality education, developing to the maximum their academic and personal capacities, which encourages a critical and entrepreneurial spirit, experimental research, responsibility and the joint participation of the educational community, of the families and surrounding institutions.

Try to meet the educational needs of young people:

Students have a training of the highest quality and adapting different learning rhythms

Give them tools to be competent, free people, critics, inquirers

The implementation of the experimental methodology.

Enhance the participation of families in our Project.

Pedagogical key elements

The school is committed to a comprehensive education of students, encouraging respect for socio-cultural diversity, the participation of students and families in the life of the center, the sense of belonging to the center as well as relations with the environment. In accordance with the above, some key educational elements that define our center are:

  • Empowerment of the scientific spirit through the use of laboratories, workshops and specialized classrooms.

  • Enhancing activities in the field of expression such as music as a tool to activate and stimulate the whole brain (neuroscience) and help discover talent that we sometimes do not know we have.

  • Participation in European programs: stays with families from the first year of ESO and international exchanges.

  • Extracurricular activities coordinated with teaching activities.

  • Ongoing training of teachers in the center itself and encouragement of training outside the center.

  • Spread of positive experiences arising from the center itself and reception of experiences coming from other centers.

Education in values

In the context we live in, internationally and nationally speaking, there are some values that we consider as very important to take into consideration with our students:

RESPECT

Respect and recognition of cultural and linguistic diversity, of different ethnic groups, of different ways of thinking but also for the environment, so as to contribute with an improvement in terms of their health.

EFFORT

Capacity of being aware that it is very important to work so as to fulfill your dreams, goals…Developing a correct culture of effort.

HONESTY

Integrity applied to the process of teaching-learning in a way that the same opportunities in terms of showing the knowledge and abilities acquired throughout their studies are granted for our students.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

This century is full of challenges and uncertainties for our youth, especially in anything related to new professions, ways of understanding the world...

Because of this, we strongly believe that it is very important to provide our students with skills and strategies so as to face them.

In that way, we consider the following as THREE basic pillars:

1- MULTILINGUAL Project

2- STEAM Project

3- READING Project

1- MULTILINGUAL Project

The centre's multilingual project aims for students to achieve:

  • Good command of the languages of the area (Spanish and Catalan).

  • Good command too in terms of foreign languages (English as first and German or French as second)

CLIL project

We started teaching some subjects in English (two subjects each level)

GEP (Experimentation Group for Plurilingualism)

So that the students have a good command of English in order to be able to follow the subjects taught in this language without insurmountable difficulties.

Cultural Exchanges Promote functional learning and learning about other cultures (Amsterdam,London, Berlin, Dublin, Malta)

Certifications

At the end of secondary education, students can sit and pass the official exams of the Institute François, Goethe Institute (A2 level), and the EOI (B2 Certificate in English). Some students can sit Cambridge, First Certificate.

2- STEAM Project

The centre's STEAM project aims for students to achieve:

  • Good command of the aspects related to new technologies in a very wide sense.

  • The academic training of teachers: STEAM methodology courses in Erasmus+ project

  • Good command of scientific and technological knowledge motivating our girls into scientific studies

The CanSaT Project

The students will have the opportunity to participate in a project small-scale space, designing and building a real satellite that will have to collect data. This methodology aims for the student to be active, explore, research, discover, analyze, learn by doing and build a simulation of a real satellite to introduce the main subsystems of a satellite and begin, in decline, its scientific mission.

GoSTEM

The aim of this space is to show all the interesting, attractive and exciting points in the world of aerospace engineering and STEM fields: Design of a re-entry capsule, design and launch of a rocket, zero gravity experiments

The Educacont Project

The goal is to measure air quality, especially (but not exclusively) in cities, and share data so that access is free. This activity is intended as a research project for students in each location.

Inspiring girls Project

Whose objective is to increase the self-esteem and professional ambition of school-age girls, as well as their job expectations, helping them to make visible the wide variety of professions and jobs that exist, without the fact of being a woman representing any limitation for them, always that are based on work and effort.

Dones 100tífiques

Make visible and highlight the relevance and strategic role of women in science and technology.

3- READING Project

It’s a project that aims to encourage a taste for reading in our students and at the same time take advantage to facilitate the teaching of writing, encourage students in our center to read, providing them with a silent space where reading experiences can also be exchanged.

The contributions of the readings made by the student will be promoted, by means of recommendations of books read "I recommend" where the reasons are argued for which we recommend this book to another person and participation in competitions such as Reading in Veu Alta.

An important aspect is the integration of reading into ICT through the use of the Legiland online reading platform.

What we want to get/learn with this STEAMcat+ project?

  • Focus STEAM learning on an increasingly complete integration of technology and science.

  • Implement student learning and teacher training in virtual and augmented reality in different areas of knowledge (natural sciences, social sciences, mathematics, ..)

  • Creation of a “space maker” to develop competence learning in technology, mathematics that includes different areas for the observation, planning, creation, development and verification of work hypotheses
