In order to recognize that physical features, climate, and vegetation influence human communities, we will be examining the geography of ancient China.
You will share information about China's geography and then analyze how geography affected settlement and ways of life in ancient China.
You will have a choice of 3 ways to present your information:
A Relief Map
A Scroll Painting
A Report
A relief map is a map with elevations and depressions representing hills and valleys, typically on an exaggerated scale.
You will use the packet below to craft a relief map detailing the geography of ancient China.
(Help from Mr. Hackbarth)
The people of ancient China often drew pictures on scrolls to illustrate the landscape. Illustrations often included physical features, climate, vegetation, food, shelter, and people.
You will create a scroll painting of one of China’s geographic regions. You can use paints, watercolor paints, markers, pencil, crayons, or colored pencil to mimic the ink that was used in ancient China.
Show these elements (If appropriate for your region):
physical features
climate
vegetation
clothing
food
shelter
economic activities of people living in that region
On an index card attached to your painting, write a paragraph that describes the region
A geographical study is a report on natural resources, climate, and vegetation. As a pair or independently you will create a geographical study of the 5 regions in ancient China.
You will create a geography journal. You will write one paragraph per region detailing natural resources, climates, and vegetation.
You will provide an image for each region you write about
The paragraphs and images should be gathered together to resemble a journal. This can be done either digitally (slides) or by hand.
