November is designated as National Native American Heritage Month. This observance commemorates the history, heritage, and culture of Native Americans. It is during this month we acknowledge the vast achievements of America’s original indigenous people and provide a platform for Native people in the United States of America to share their culture, traditions, music, crafts, dance, and ways of life.
Grades K-2
Coloring Pages:
Students will color pictures of Native Americans (Optional: Write a sentence to go along with the coloring about who the Native American is or why the Native American is important)
Totem Pole Activity:
Students will read about Totem Poles, Review Animals and Descriptions, Create a Totem Pole based on your own character traits, and Write about Totem Pole (differentiated worksheets based on grade level)
Autism K-1
Totem Pole Activity:
Students will watch videos about Totem Poles, Choose Animals and trace the names of those animals, then create a Totem Pole using the animals that were chosen.
Native American Sentence Builder Book:
Students will identify what each Native American is doing in each of the photos and then complete the sentences that describe their actions by choosing the matching photo. Students can also practice building sentences using the sentence builder strips.
Grades 3-5
Research Native American Cultural Region:
Students will complete a research worksheet (Read “Explore Native American Cultures” on EPIC for information about tribes OR the National Geographic Kids website)
Totem Pole Activity:
