Autism Acceptance Month. As a school, we will be participating in the following activities:
Infinity Sign Bulletin Board – All teachers will be given copies of an Infinity sign in their mailboxes. Each student will write how he or she can be inclusive (the Slides that will be sent out can be used to discuss what being inclusive means). We ask that they be colored according to the assigned colors of the following grade levels.
o Kindergarten/Autism – RED
o First Grade – ORANGE
o Second Grade – PURPLE
o Third Grade – BLUE
o Fourth Grade – GREEN
o Fifth Grade – YELLOW
We will be participating in a Spirit Week, which will include representing being a friend, being accepting, and being unique, as well as activities such as "Bubble Day" and "Positive/Inclusive Chalk Messages."
Bubble Day - We will all assemble outside in the afternoon, wearing Autism shirts (from fundraiser) and participate in “Bubbles for Autism".
Daily Inspiration Google Slides, which include a read-aloud and/or a video per slide, will be emailed to teachers for use in their classrooms.
The "Understanding Autism" Informational Google Slides can be used as an introductory lesson. They will also include some read-aloud stories and videos relating to Autism, and being unique
RethinkEd lessons related to kindness, inclusion, respect, uniqueness, and understanding others can be tied in as well:
Kindergarten: "Spreading Kindness" or "Me and You"
1st Grade: "What is Respect?" or "You are Unique"
2nd Grade: "Showing Respect" or "Making Friends at School" or "I am One of a Kind"
