Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Juneteenth marks the anniversary of the announcement of General Order No. 3 by Union Army General Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865, proclaiming freedom for slaves in Texas.
K-2 Students will watch educational videos to learn about Juneteenth. After watching the videos, they will color different posters to celebrate this holiday.
3-5 Students will read and discuss the provided Google Slides presentation about Juneteenth. Then, they will create a celebration craft based on their learning. Students will also complete a word search and math problems with Juneteenth topics.
