Greetings Schoolcraft Families,
March is Reading Month. This year, all classrooms at Schoolcraft will be reading the same 4 short books and discussing the themes and characters as a class. Their thoughts and noticings will be displayed around the school so kids can see what other grade levels took away from each book. Each week, students will have the opportunity to participate in a small task focused on the class book. This optional work will be completed at home. Their work will be displayed for the school.
If you would like to Celebrate Reading Month at home, we encourage you to use our reading month calendar. On days marked with FB you can take a picture of your child completing the reading task and upload to our school facebook for the chance to win a free book!
Over the past year, our district has seen great success with the LEXIA online reading program. Students log in and complete reading, writing, phonics and word study lessons that are specific to each child's needs. Our classroom teachers are using the LEXIA data to make reading and writing groups at each students level. This diagnostic tool partnered with strategic intervention and enrichment groups will help all students reach their full potential as readers.
At Schoolcraft we LOVE to CELEBRATE. As each student finishes a LEXIA level, they will receive a certificate and will be celebrated in their classrooms. Some levels are difficult and have multiple units to finish before a level is complete. We will also track and celebrate each classroom's completed units. The classroom with the most units completed can look forward to the glory of being the most dedicated Lexia readers in the school and they will be invited to a GLOW in the DARK reading party!
Let's keep our kids excited about READING!!! Happy Reading Month.

Awesome Artists
Third graders Kennedy Foulis, Brina Mefford and Evelyn Edwards use their knowledge of light source to add highlights and shadows to make realistic art!
Kindness All Around
Schoolcraft classrooms are focused on cultivating a climate of kindness. We practice the GOLDEN RULE. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Second grader, Jayden Carpenter did just that. A kindergartener needed to tie her shoe and he stopped and helped her out!
Math Minds at Work
Third Graders in Mrs. Wichtman's class are busy building, drawing and explaining area. At Schoolcraft, all students have a voice and they learn to listen to each other to understand different thoughts and ideas.
Visualize It
Fifth Graders in Mrs. Mitchell's class use visual models to understand multiplying decimal numbers. The color coding helps students to break the harder math into parts they feel confident solving.
