WOMEN'S CHORUS

Description: Warrior Choir. A non-auditioned women's chorus. Open to any sophomore, junior or senior girls. Members enjoy a fun atmosphere where they learn the basics of choral singing. Typically meant for sophomores preparing to audition for Premier or A Cappella.

Description: Men’s chorus is for all men who want to sing without passing through an audition. Men’s chorus offers a fun, challenging musical experience. As many men as would like to join are invited to participate. It is designed mostly to be a training ground for sophomores to prepare for an audition choir. Juniors and Seniors are also invited to participate. Men’s chorus performs at 4 concerts and region events.

Description: Premier is Weber High's elite women's choir. The choir prepares challenging repertoire. We will perform at 4 concerts and region events. Premier performs classical, pop, folk and Broadway music. Members pay class and uniform fees. Audition or recommendation from previous teacher is required.

Description: Chamber choir is the most elite and specialized choir at the school. Only a few women and a few men are invited to participate based on their expert sight-reading, blending and musicianship skills. The choir prepares and performs college-level repertoire in a variety of styles. Simultaneous enrollment in A Capella is required. Members are also required to pay class and uniform fees.

Description: A Capella is the premier large mixed choir at Weber High School. The choir has a rewarding performance schedule, including a performance tour in the Spring. The choir prepares and performs a variety of challenging repertoire. Members of the choir are solid musicians who show skill in sight-reading, tone production, performance, and musicality. Members are required to pay class and uniform fees. A Capella will perform at 4 concerts each year and region choir events. Audition required.

Description: Jazz Band will perform various styles of music: big band, modern jazz, funk, Latin and others. Audition for membership takes place in the Spring. Members of the Jazz Band will also participate in all Band activities to include: Pep Band, Concerts, Festivals, Community/School Events and may travel out state every other year. The course covers jazz techniques, improvisation, and music theory. Should be taken in conjunction with Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble. Unless approved by the Director.

Description: Band consists of wind, drumline, percussion and Color Guard sections. Students will perform at ALL home football games, school concerts, local parades, and competitions throughout the semester. Summer practices are required and will help to prepare for the marching season. An "Informational Meeting" will be held in the Spring to review all practices. All marching members are expected to participate in another ensemble as your schedule allows. Select instruments can be rented from the school.

Description: The study of all standard band and orchestra percussion instruments for the serious student interested in performance. This class will accompany all bands and will perform as a percussion ensemble. Students are expected to learn and perform in solo & ensemble, concerts and other school music activities as needed.

Description: CE Music 1010 is designed to make music more meaningful to the average listener. The student will learn about great composers throughout the history of music as well as their contributions to music. Course topics will be aimed at developing better music listening skills and some basic musical language. Outside concert attendance may be required. Provides a high school Fine Arts/elective credit as well as 3 Concurrent credits at WSU.

Description: This class is a college level music theory class and should be taken by students interested in pursuing music or developing their knowledge. Different theoretical aspects of music will be explored as well as music history, ear training, and sight reading. Students may earn college credit by taking the National AP exam. Basic note reading and general music knowledge is a must for this class.

Description: This course is an intermediate level course that is student empowered and growth focused. Concert Orchestra is designed to provide students with an opportunity to learn about, build, and apply state core standard skills in instrumental music. Members rehearse and perform repertoire primarily from the Baroque Period to the present, usually prepare 1-2 programs per quarter, and present 1-2 performances each quarter. Those students who work hard in concert orchestra will get the first spots that open for Chamber Orchestra.

Description: This course is an advanced level course. Entry into this ensemble is by audition in the spring of the previous school year. The students in this group spend considerable time outside of class practicing their parts as well as working diligently during rehearsals. Chamber Orchestra is designed to provide students with an opportunity to learn about, build, and apply state core standard skills in instrumental music. Members rehearse and perform repertoire primarily from the Baroque Period to the present, usually prepare 1-2 programs per quarter, and present 1-2 performances each quarter. Every other year the orchestra tours with the performing arts department.
