There will be nightly homework due the next day unless stated otherwise. Homework is an important part to learning mathematics, as it gives you an opportunity to practice the skills and apply your learning. Not doing your homework is NOT an option! Homework is graded on effort, meaning all problems were attempted, work shown and corrections made.
You are welcome to ask questions about anything that was difficult or confusing after you have given it an honest try. This means looking it up if you were not sure where to start. Try the online textbook, the Useful Links page on this site, or homework help. It is your job to ask questions and correct when a mistake is made. Remember, mistakes are proof you are trying. They also help you learn, so know mistakes happen - in fact in this classroom they are welcome!
It is necessary to actively participate during class is to understand and master new concepts. Working in study teams is the best way to truly master new mathematical concepts. Participation checks are an opportunity to show your ability to participate in your learning and work as a team.
At the end of each chapter, you and your study team will have the opportunity to work through a challenge together, using all of the new concepts and skills you learned up to that point in an interesting way. These are graded using a 6 point rubric.
Throughout the chapter, you will be able to show what you know about mathematical concepts through writing prompts. These are graded using the 6 point rubric. These can be corrected and fixed up until the chapter test.
Section Check for Learning - (25 points)
An opportunity to check your understanding of the learning from each section. These are graded using a 6 point rubric.
Tests are intended to show your mastery of the concepts addressed in the unit so they must be taken without the use of your notes. Assessments are cumulative-meaning items on previous tests will show up again and again. These are graded using a 6 point rubric.
