SUN Bucks (Summer EBT) Overview
SUN Bucks—also known as Summer EBT—is a federally funded nutrition benefit designed to help low‑income families with school‑aged children cover grocery costs during the summer months when school meals are unavailable. You can learn more here.
Benefit amount: Each eligible child receives a total of $120 ($40/month) to spend on groceries over the summer.
How it's delivered: Families typically receive a new EBT card dedicated to SUN Bucks (separate from SNAP), mailed in June, with funds available starting in July.
What it covers: Benefits can be used at stores and farmers' markets that accept SNAP to purchase items like fresh produce, dairy, meat, breads, cereals, snack foods, and non‑alcoholic beverages.
Eligibility: Automatic enrollment applies to families already receiving SNAP, TANF, SSI, or MassHealth during the school year, or those whose children qualify for free or reduced-price school meals. Others who are home‑eligible may apply via state portals like DTA Connect.
