The Grandfriend Mentoring Programs involves individuals 55+ from our community providing support, advice, friendship and role modeling to students in Aim for Success Schools. Mentors are trained to mentor and serve as positive role models and supportive adults to mentees. Mentoring takes place in a structured environment under the supervision and guidance of Aim for Success and school staff. Our Grandfriend Mentors commit to spending consistent, weekly time with their mentee participating in games, activities, crafts and great conversation.

Letter from parent
I just wanted to say how impactful the grandfriend mentoring program has been with my son. At the time I was the only adult in the home and all our family is over 12 hours away, for him to be able to create a bond with someone who was available to participate in activities with him and gave him that special attention that he needed, gave him a confidence boost he greatly needed.
I cannot express enough how beneficial the program was to him and having his grandfreind take the time out of her day to have one on one time with him made him feel important and created a bond that every child needs to feel appreciated and wanted. He always looked forward to the days he was able to spend with her and came home eagerly wanting to talk about all the things they did that day together. Even though it may seem like something so simple and small, how it made my child feel and how his confidence grew is the true indication on how big this was and just how much it meant to him to have a grandfriend.
Thank you so much for offering this program, its means a lot that he can have another positive role model outside of school and home.
Letter from Grandfriend
"Being a Grandfriend for a short time, to a very special young man, has been a very positive experience for me, and I hope that he feels the same way. There are a lot of kids in today's world missing out on things we took for granted growing up. Sometimes with everyone's schedule being full, parents just can't find the time to give the 1 on 1 time a child needs, and with so many blended families, there is even less time to give to each child individually. This is where grandfriends come in, children love to be heard, and sometimes just having some ones undivided attention is all they really need. Being a positive role model (grandfriend) in a young child's life just makes their positive support system a little bigger. Most of us elders love kids, I know I do, and we as humans all like to feel needed or have a purpose in life. As we age and our kids and grandkids grow up and away, we may feel alone or useless, mentoring is a way to feel you have a purpose in life again and a way to give back. When we are with our mentees, time flies, that's because it's so much fun! Aim for Success's mentoring program is your chance to have a positive impact on at least 1 child, and put a smile on your face each and every time you are with them. I feel that the mentor and the mentee can both learn and grow no matter the age. I look forward to the upcoming year with my mentee."
