How does a cross country meet work?
There are two middle school races, one for boys and one for girls. Before the race, runners will attach a race bib to their jersey which will track their finish time as the runners enter the chute. The first person who finishes receives 1 point, second runner gets 2 points, and so on. The first five runners from each team score points and the lowest cumulative score wins.
Do 7th and 8th graders run separately?
No, the only division is between boys and girls.
Does everyone run?
Yes, all athletes will run at every meet.
How long is a meet?
Each race is 2 miles. The meet schedule allows for 30 minutes to insure that all runners are able to finish before the next race starts. Smaller meets that are just middle school and only a couple teams only last a little over an hour (depending on awards), the invites tend to be longer because the high school teams run as well and we get there earlier to get set up and walk the course.
Can I take my runner home after the race?
Yes, once they have completed their race you may take them home. However, they do need to sign out with the coaches. This requires a signed note to verify that a parent is taking them.
