Fifth and sixth grade is when students begin to learn music in an ensemble setting: band, choir, and orchestra. Students combine performance with theoretical understanding. Student should be using the skills they acquired throughout general music classes to make them more independent musicians. Students at this age should be able to read basic music, distinguish a correct performance from an incorrect performance, and execute individual practice.
