Second grade is a great year for elementary music. In the second grade, many students are singing in tune within the context of a group. Some students are able to sing nicely in tune as individuals. Most to all students can keep a beat by clapping, patting, and alternating between the two. In addition, students are able to label the sounds they hear using music terminology. But most important, students have developed the memory capacity to end songs. *YES!*

Average vocal capabilities: “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and for some “Land of the Silver Birch”
