The Professional Standards provide a framework for teachers and trainers to critically appraise their own practice and improve their teaching through Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
The TDA (2007) published a list of professional standards that primary and secondary school student teachers in England and Wales need to have acquired in order to be awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) from September 2007. The QTS standards are grouped into three areas:
