Citizen's advice - extra dates
Our Citizen's Advice worker, Barry Sobey was able to help several families during his first day in school. His next appointments are available on 27th March, 17th April and 15th May. To make an appointment, please speak to our office team or Miss Ridley.
We were really encouraged to learn that the families from another WISE school benefitted from an extra £141,000 last year as a result of accessing the support offered through Citizen's Advice. This was through obtaining grants to support families, emergency fuel vouchers, debts handled and benefit claims / challenges. Barry will also be able to help families complete DLA forms, challenge decisions when needed, prevent homelessness and can make referrals to services who can help with legal options to help families feel safer in their homes.
Miss Broadbent's Bootcamp
Miss Broadbent's bootcampers were practising their skills of rhythm and co -ordination as well as keeping fit as they learnt the hoop team challenge. They've promised to post a video once they've mastered it! There are still spaces available on this after school club, please see the office to book your child's place.
World Book day
There was a very high standard of wooden spoon characters entered into our competition on Thursday. Well done to everyone who took part and congratulations to our World Book Day wooden spoon winners!
Year 2 Digital photography!
Year 2 have been really enjoying their new computing unit - digital photography. Over the last 2 weeks we have been practising taking a good quality photo and taking them in portrait and landscape mode. Here are some of our photos so far. We have been very impressed with their selfie skills!
Mother's Day
Our Nursery children have been using their observational drawing skills to create some beautiful daffodils for their Mothering Sunday cards.
Y3/4 World Book Day
Year 3 and 4 have thoroughly enjoyed World Book day with a book cover quiz and some extra reading time whilst snuggled up in our PJ's. Some fantastic character spoons as well. Everyone thrilled to get a book token and some great discussion about what books they were going to get.
Reception visit Haltwhistle Garden Centre
Reception enjoyed an afternoon at Haltwhistle Garden Centre. We enjoyed a lovely walk in the sunshine and spotted different signs of spring. We were able to have a look at the diggers and concrete mixers. We enjoyed looking around the garden centre. We saw different fruit trees, vegetables and flowers. Janette at the garden centre gave us some raspberry plants and plant pots. When we came back to school we talked about the different parts of a plant and what they need to grow. We enjoyed planting the raspberry plants in our polytunnel.
Plant reproduction
In Science, Ivy class have been setting up an experiment to see how certain plants reproduce. They have prepared their potatoes and will make observations over the next couple of weeks to see what happens to them.
Easter Bingo is back!
It's been a few years since we have been able to host our annual Easter Bingo, and it would be lovely to welcome as many families as possible to this fun evening event.
We welcome prize donations too, if you are ablt to help us in this way.

Attendance Matters - important changes coming
The government have announced important changes to the school absence measures which schools are required to implement. We are sharing these with parents now as we do not want our families to receive fine as a result of these changes in the future:
Absence fines charged to parents will rise from £60 to £80, or £160 if not paid within 21 days.
From the Autumn, only two fines can be issued to the same parent for the same child within a three-year rolling period. Any second notice will automatically be charged at £160.
Schools will have to consider a fine if a pupil misses 10 sessions (half days) of unauthorised absence in a rolling period of 10 school weeks. For example, four sessions in term time plus six instances of arriving late would count as 10 sessions.
Every second in school counts, as missing school, whether by being late or taking unnecessary days off, creates more new learning gaps which need to be addressed. The best way you can support your child to recover from the lost school time of recent years is to ensure they are in school and ready to learn every day.
We want every child's attendance to be good or better. This means 96%+
Please check your child's attendance (see our app) against the class and national data. School staff are able to offer support if your child's attendance is of concern.
Please do not take your child out of school during term time as it disrupts your child’s learning and you risk financial penalties. Any term time leave of absence must be applied for more than 2 weeks before the date of leave and can only be authorised by the Headteacher in the case of EXCEPTIONAL circumstances. Please could we urge parents to book holidays during the 13 weeks of annual school holidays which are available each year. In line with our attendance policy, we are required to refer all qualifying absences due to holidays during term time to the Education Welfare Officer at Northumberland County Council.
If leave has not been authorised and your child is out of school then you may receive a minimum fine of £60 per child, per parent. If the time out of school makes your child’s attendance drop below 90% then they are known as persistently absent under the governments attendance definitions. This means that you may face prosecution through the courts.
Please help us to help your child catch up by ensuring they are in school and ready to learn every day.
