Nurture, believe, inspire, achieve

Congratulations Year 6!

We had so many smiling faces amongst our Y6 children on results day! Congratulations to every single one of them, these are exceptional outcomes, particularly when you consider the huge challenges covid presented to our community. Congratulations also to the fabulous Miss Thompson and Mr Hutton who prepared the children so well and to our whole staff team who have supported their journey through school to enable them to achieve so highly. Haltwhistle you have so much to be proud of!

Haltwhistle Carnival!

A great big thank you to everyone who helped to make our 2023 carnival float such an amazing experience for our children. We won several rosettes and we were awarded the shield for Most Creative Float.

Special thanks to -

All of the staff and children who helped to make the decorations at Carnival Club.

Janet and Patrick Doody for the use of their wagon.

Richard Bowes for being our lovely driver.

All the staff at Doody's yard for being so welcoming, helpful and keeping us smiling when things didn't quite go to plan.

All of our school staff and their family members who helped to build and decorate our float over the weekend.

Mr. Jamie Charlton who very kindly helped us take it all apart.

Last but not least a huge thank you to our community who came out in force to watch us on Sunday.

See you all again next year. Thank you.

Sports Day!

Key Stage 1 enjoyed a sunny sports day on Monday morning. All of the children jumped, ran, threw and caught to the best of their abilities and had a lot of fun in the process. Well done to everyone. We will be holding some finals to decide on medal places next week and then having our medal ceremony later on in the week.   We finished the morning with some very competitive and eventful parents races!

Reception visit Bardon Mill Park

Bramble class (and Bramble) had a lovely day today at Brandon Mill park. It was so exciting getting on the bus. We had lots of fun playing on the slides and swings, we had a walk through the forest and a sunny picnic lunch. The children had such a great time and followed all instructions, they were a credit it the school with their behaviour. Well done Brambles.  Pictures to follow ...

The digestive system

This week, Year 3 and 4 have been learning about the digestive system. They learnt about each part of the digestive system parts and their functions. The children then recreated the digestive process to see what happens to food between entering the mouth and exiting the body.

Year 2 Reading

Miss Stronach’s reading group have loved reading ‘The Boy Who Grew Dragons’ by Andy Shepherd this term. There are lots of other books in this series so if you want to find out what happens next with Tomas and Flicker why not read the second book ‘The Boy Who Lived With Dragons.’

KS1 Visit St Mary's Lighthouse

On Tuesday Year 1 and 2 had a super visit to St Mary's beach and island. The sun managed to shine as we explored the headland habitats and found some really interesting bugs. We then enjoyed lunch on the headland looking out to sea and we were all mesmerised to see dolphins jumping just off the coast!! After lunch we used pebbles, shells and seaweed to create pieces of sand art. Finally we collected our nets and buckets and headed across the causeway onto the rocks to do some rockpooling. We all found some amazing things including shore crabs, hermit crabs, prawns, fish, periwinkles and anemone's. Miss Broadbent's group even found a starfish! Once again thank you very much to those adults who volunteered their time to come with us, we really appreciate it.

Attendance Matters

Every second in school counts, as missing school, whether by being late or taking unnecessary days off, creates more new learning gaps which need to be addressed.  The best way you can support your child to recover from the lost school time of recent years is to ensure they are in school and ready to learn every day.

We want every child's attendance to be good or better.  This means 96%+

Attendance data for newsletter

Please check your child's attendance (see our app) against the class and national data.  School staff are able to offer support if your child's attendance is of concern.

Please do not take your child out of school during term time as it disrupts your child’s learning and you risk financial penalties.   Any term time leave of absence must be applied for more than 2 weeks before the date of leave and can only be authorised by the Headteacher in the case of EXCEPTIONAL circumstances.  Please could we urge parents to book holidays during the 13 weeks of annual school holidays which are available each year.

If leave has not been authorised and your child is out of school then you may receive a minimum fine of £60 per child, per parent.  If the time out of school makes your child’s attendance drop below 90% then they are known as persistently absent under the governments attendance definitions.  This means that you may face prosecution through the courts.

Please help us to help your child catch up by ensuring they are in school and ready to learn every day.
