Coronation Big Picnic

Thank you to our wonderful kitchen team who prepared individual picnic boxes for all the children.  Unfortunately the rain made the field a bit too soggy, but we enjoyed a playground picnic with our friends

Early Years celebrate the King's Coronation

To celebrate the King's Coronation, Early Years children enjoyed an afternoon tea style picnic, played party games and

planted some trees in our woodland area. The children were very careful as the removed them from their plant pots and they added compost to the holes to ensure the trees were straight and secure. We had a wonderful day!

Commemorative Mugs

Thank you to Haltwhistle Chamber of Trade who kindly gifted every child with a commemorative mug to mark the occasion of the Kings Coronation

LKS2 Science

Year 3/4 have been learning all about vertebrates and invertebrates in science. We found out that vertebrates were split into five animal groups (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish) and that invertebrates could be split into two groups (those with and without exoskeletons). They children then used their new knowledge to group and classify vertebrates and invertebrates and explain their reasoning.

KS1 visit the Discovery Museum

Key Stage 1 enjoyed a fantastic day out to the Discovery Museum on Tuesday. We attended a workshop where we found out all about The Great Fire of Newcastle and Gateshead. We looked at really old pictures to help us to see what had happened, did a puppet show to tell the story and looked at some artifacts of things people who were alive at that time would have used or had in their homes. The rest of the time we explored the museum and saw all kinds of interesting displays including a steam boat, artifacts from everyday life right from the Roman times up to now and a whole room of science games and activities to enjoy. Many thanks once again to those volunteers who gave up their time to come and help us. For more photos of the fun, please take a look at our social media pages.

Y2 Fractions

In maths year 2 have been learning all about fractions - half, quarters and thirds! First we have been using our cubes to practically share and then we have been using the bar model to help us find fractions of numbers. We know we need to look carefully at the numbers in the fraction to know how many groups we need and how many groups we need to count.

Attendance Matters

Every second in school counts, as missing school, whether by being late or taking unnecessary days off, creates more new learning gaps which need to be addressed.  The best way you can support your child to recover from the lost school time of recent years is to ensure they are in school and ready to learn every day.

We want every child's attendance to be good or better.  This means 96%+

Please check your child's attendance (see our app) against the class and national data.  School staff are able to offer support if your child's attendance is of concern.

Please do not take your child out of school during term time as it disrupts your child’s learning and you risk financial penalties.   Any term time leave of absence must be applied for more than 2 weeks before the date of leave and can only be authorised by the Headteacher in the case of EXCEPTIONAL circumstances.  Please could we urge parents to book holidays during the 13 weeks of annual school holidays which are available each year.

If leave has not been authorised and your child is out of school then you may receive a minimum fine of £60 per child, per parent.  If the time out of school makes your child’s attendance drop below 90% then they are known as persistently absent under the governments attendance definitions.  This means that you may face prosecution through the courts.

Please help us to help your child catch up by ensuring they are in school and ready to learn every day.
