Citizen's advice dates below!

We have now confirmed 2 days of Citizen's Advice support for our families every half term.  Our first appointments will be available on 6th March and 27th March with our adviser, Barry Sobey.   This will give our families access to the widest range of services and specialist advice to ensure families are accessing all the support available.  To make an appointment, please speak to our office team or Miss Ridley.

We were really encouraged to learn that the families from another WISE school benefitted from an extra £141,000 last year as a result of accessing the support offered through Citizen's Advice.   This was through obtaining grants to support families, emergency fuel vouchers, debts handled and benefit claims / challenges.  Barry will also be able to help families complete DLA forms, challenge decisions when needed, prevent homelessness and can make referrals to services who can help with legal options to help families feel safer in their homes.

KS1 Computing

In computing Year 2 have been exploring robot algorithms using bee-bots. Over the last few weeks they have worked together to create their own bee-bot map using their geography knowledge of a national park in Kenya. They chose what animals/buildings they wanted on their map and then added some obstacles. They then had to plan and write their own algorithm using arrow directions and then used this algorithm to program their robot. We didn’t worry if the algorithm didn’t work the first as we then had a go at de-bugging it and finding the error.

Year 1 also enjoyed their digital photography lesson in computing, they were using the ipads to take a photograph of an object in the distance, a close up of an object, a selfie, and a building.

Easter Bingo is back!

It's been a few years since we have been able to host our annual Easter Bingo, and it would be lovely to welcome as many families as possible to this fun evening event.

We welcome prize donations too, if you are ablt to help us in this way.

Pancake Day!

This week Nursery enjoyed celebrating Pancake Day on Tuesday.

We learnt what ingredients are needed, then we measured these and mixed them together to make pancake batter. It looked runny and wet. Next, we needed to cook it, using a frying pan. Everyone enjoyed watching the pancakes change as they cooked and then being flipped in the pan! We even had a go flipping our own plastic 'pancakes' on tennis rackets in the garden after. The best bit was getting to eat the pancakes for snack, with a choice of syrup or lemon and honey, delicious!

Roman experience

Year 3/4 have had a fantastic experience with the just press play headphones, they enjoyed a Roman adventure where the Iceni tribe and Boudicca attacked Colchester, from the viewpoint of the General's son who has to rescue his father who has been kidnapped by Boudicca. It was a fully immersive experience and they acted it out travelling using the compass points around the room. They enjoyed playing a role in the adventure and said it was a great opportunity.

Reception class visit The Sill

Bramble class had an amazing day at The Sill. We listened to the story ‘The Wild Woods’ and then made woodland animal masks. Can you spot the fox? We then explored the woods to find a special stick to make a stick person. It was lots of fun. In the afternoon we went into the exhibition where we learnt about the world around us. We had great fun on the rooftop where we used binoculars to see what was around us. We spotted lots of sheep which we decided looked bigger through our binoculars. We ended our fantastic day with an unwind in the play park.

Year 5 Forest School Taster Session

Year 5 KA spent the afternoon in Forest School with Mr. Wood. We learned how to use a stopper knot to create our own shelters. The children worked fantastically in teams to create their own dens. We then learned how to use a flint and steel safely to create a small controlled fire. Using our fire, we toasted marshmallows and a great time in nature.

World Book Day 7th March 2024

We'll be "cosying up with a book" on 7th March for World Book day.  Children can come into school in warm pyjamas or onesie's (please remeber outdoor shoes and coats too) and we will be enjoying booked themed activities in every class.  We are asking for a donation of £1 which will go towards replacing damaged and lost books from our library.

Attendance Matters - important changes coming

The government have announced important changes to the school absence measures which schools are required to implement. We are sharing these with parents now as we do not want our families to receive fine as a result of these changes in the future:

Every second in school counts, as missing school, whether by being late or taking unnecessary days off, creates more new learning gaps which need to be addressed.  The best way you can support your child to recover from the lost school time of recent years is to ensure they are in school and ready to learn every day.

We want every child's attendance to be good or better.  This means 96%+

Attendance data for newsletter

Please check your child's attendance (see our app) against the class and national data.  School staff are able to offer support if your child's attendance is of concern.

Please do not take your child out of school during term time as it disrupts your child’s learning and you risk financial penalties.   Any term time leave of absence must be applied for more than 2 weeks before the date of leave and can only be authorised by the Headteacher in the case of EXCEPTIONAL circumstances.  Please could we urge parents to book holidays during the 13 weeks of annual school holidays which are available each year.    In line with our attendance policy, we are required to refer all qualifying absences due to holidays during term time to the Education Welfare Officer at Northumberland County Council.

If leave has not been authorised and your child is out of school then you may receive a minimum fine of £60 per child, per parent.  If the time out of school makes your child’s attendance drop below 90% then they are known as persistently absent under the governments attendance definitions.  This means that you may face prosecution through the courts.

Please help us to help your child catch up by ensuring they are in school and ready to learn every day.
