Student Focus Group

This year, students were invited to join a Horizons Week focus group to establish West Island School's Horizons Week philosophy and the criteria for trip selection. The focus group, made up of students from Years 8-12, then rated the trip itineraries against the criteria which has resulted in the selection of trips on offer.

Horizons Week philosophy

Horizons Week is a fun opportunity to learn in non-traditional settings beyond the walls of a classroom. Trips should offer opportunities for students to broaden their horizons regardless of their skills and interests.

Criteria for trip selection

We should be mindful of our impact on the environment and the communities we visit, so overseas trips should provide an opportunity to do something that is not possible in Hong Kong and should offer a unique experience distinct from a typical family vacation. Any service trips should be part of a meaningful, ongoing commitment to a project.
