9th Grade Experience
April 23rd - April 25th, 2026
Students will learn about the challenges of hunger, poverty and environmental degradation through the “Global Gateway Experience” at the Howell Nature Preserve. They will also learn about the sustainable development goals with respect to their place and purpose in Detroit. Understanding these goals and their application is the way in which our students learn about the 4 pillars of global education which are foundational to the curriculum in 0 bell and AGS. This will connect directly to the material covered in the 9th grade 0 bell global seminar course which focuses on investigating the world through current global issues.

10th Grade Experience
April 1st - April 4th
Students will learn about global education from a variety of lenses. The 10th grade focuses on Model United Nations and, throughout the year, participates in 5-7 simulations on global topics. During these simulations, students learn about the customs, culture, government, and many other aspects of life within countries from around the world. Students focus on recognizing the perspectives of others in these countries when they learn to debate, compromise, and find solutions to world problems as they act as ambassadors from a represented country in the UN. This experience is meant to enhance the students’ understanding of the United Nations and the impact that the Sustainable Development Goals have on the world around them. In addition, all sites being visited relate to what the students are learning in American Studies and are associated with specific curriculum standards

12th Grade Experience
April 1st - April 3rd, 2026
This trip is a culmination of 4 years of study around the sustainable development goals. For AGS scholars, the trip will have a sincere focus on the changes that the city of Chicago went through over the past 2 centuries and how individuals and community organizations supported and acted to create positive change. This ties in directly to the AGS 12th grade 0 bell class on Senior Leadership as the facilitators in that class will be connecting these organizations and individuals to what it takes to positively lead a group of individuals.

Traveling internationally is one of the best ways for students and staff to truly immerse themselves in another culture. Within the Academy of Global Studies we have various travel opportunities that do exactly this on a yearly basis. Some international experiences are planned independently and others are planned through EF tours to provide a multitude of options and price ranges for our students.
