The Academy of Global Studies believes in becoming more global, but also focusing on our local community. Every student enrolled in the Academy of Global is expected to complete 70 hours of community service before they graduate. This helps them to understand that even a high school student can have an impact on the world. The goal is for students to complete the following number of hours for each respective year to total 70 hours:
9th Grade - 10 hours 10th Grade - 15 hours
11th Grade - 20 hours 12th Grade - 25 hours
Students, submit all community service hours on THIS FORM!
Here is a list of options that are near us but you can always find your own service opportunities!

Great Parks of Hamilton County
1. Long-term volunteering: If students would like to volunteer for the park district in an on-going capacity, they can complete an application for our long-term volunteer program here. Our long-term program does require some training, including attending an orientation before they can get started. However, by going through our onboarding process volunteers have a wider variety of opportunities they can get involved in including things like Animal Care, Interpreter Programs, Natural Resource Monitoring, and more. Volunteers can work at any of our 22 different parks, at Winton Woods specifically we have a lot of opportunities with helping at Parky’s Farm (barn aiding and gardening) as well as with our Conservation & Parks team removing invasive plants, litter clean ups, trail work, and more.
2. One day projects: Your students can sign up for one-time community volunteer opportunities without going through the application and orientation process. With these projects family and friends are welcome to join too. Projects are typically 2-4 hours and registration may be found on our webpage under "Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities". Volunteers will need to fill out a waiver before attending. We usually offer 3+ projects a month (including weekday and weekend options), and the list is updated frequently so they check back often for new opportunities.
3. Group projects: If you, or any other teacher at Winton Woods, would like to participate in a project with just your students, we do offer opportunities for schools groups to bring their students to Great Parks for an energizing, highly visible service project. Hands-on projects might include planting trees, landscaping, trail work, removing invasive plants, or cleaning lake and river banks. Projects generally take place Monday through Friday during normal business hours. If this is the route you want to go, whoever would be the group lead would first need to complete either a community group application. We review these applications quarterly with our staff to place groups with a project. Our review for Fall applications has already passed, but we will be reviewing applications for Winter in November and for the Spring in January/February.
