Global Seminar is the class which all AGS scholars take each year of their high school career. This course is paramount to our programming and covers the 4 pillars of global education: Investigate the World, Recognize Others' Perspectives, Communicate Ideas, and Take Action. Within global seminar, students learn to understand the world through the lenses of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), participate in multiple mentoring experiences, and hear stories from individuals around the world.
Course Description: In 9th Grade Seminar students investigate the world through studying the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The class is split up into three major sections the Planet, the Cities, and the People in which they learn about the goals through various activities. The year concludes with a presentation at the AGS International Fair.
Current Focus of Learning: We are working SDG 10 aimed at reducing inequalities.
Course Description: In 10th Grade Seminar students recognize other's perspectives through participating in many different Model United Nations Simulations. These are usually over current events/ topics through which the United Nations is currently working. At the end of every simulation, the students have a working resolution on the topic that has been agreed upon by a consensus of nations.
Current Focus of Learning: Is learning about the history and setup of the United Nations as well as it's evolution.
Course Description: In 11th Grade Seminar, students learn to communicate their ideas through a series of debates. These debates are over highly controversial current event topics such as gun control, abortion, and the welfare system. Through Policy and Public Forum debates, students learn to communicate their ideas over globally important topics in an effective and persuasive manner. In addition, students complete an investigation of careers and colleges that align with their current passions, goals, and future.
Current Focus of Learning: Students are currently investigating and presenting on careers they may be interested in pursuing.
Course Description: In 12th Grade Seminar students learn to take action through Senior Leadership. The seniors lead freshmen mentoring groups, host discussions with business, military and government leaders, and learn what it takes to become a successful leader. Students even have the opportunity to earn College Credit through Cincinnati States' Leadership program here at Winton Woods.
Current Focus of Learning: Perserverance and Making it Work.
