The Reflection

The description of my lesson:

My students have been listening to the audio version of the novel A Monster Calls. This lesson goes with the last part of the novel. Students are collaborating with their group to summarize the story up to where we are at. They will then share with the class so that I can assess their comprehension. Students will then listen to the last section on EdPuzzle. As they listen, they will be creating Sketchnotes to record their thinking. Students will respond to the comprehension questions on EdPuzzle. At the completion of the listening to the story, students will respond to a prompt with the expectation that they will cite textual evidence to create an inference based on the theme of the novel. Students will then create a Flipgrid with their response to the book and what lesson they learned from it.

A reflection on the process, including the educational pedagogy utilized in the lesson:

This the first time I had my students listen to an entire novel. The premise was to improve their listening skills as this was the lowest area that they tested in on their 7th grade CAASSP. The first few days it was rather eerie in my classroom with the silence. I was having hard time with it. Then I saw that the students liked it- especially the sketchnoting. My students who are artistic created amazing work. As we progressed through the novel, I made adaptions to the future hyperdocs. I choose Flipgrid for the final reflection because I felt that it mat be more powerful if students were able to speak about the lessons that they learned through the novel. Educational pedagogy utilized is that the students are particpating in a flipped lesson at their own pace, their are expected to listen to the material until they are able to answer the questions in EdPuzzle. I also allow the students to communicate to their peers at the beginning of the lesson by them asking and answering questions. They lead the conversation.
