Innovative Education Project

My Innovative Education Project is Moving Through the Middle.

As I started the cohort, I was very nervous about creating some type of project that I would share. I think I felt that I would not be able to create something good enough. As I started to think about what I would do, I decided to focus on a subject that I felt weak in, and that is History. There are a ton of resources to use in the US History classroom, but sometimes they are also very hard to filter through. As I went through the program and had the opportunity to collaborate with Lindsay, "Moving Through the Middle" seemed like a perfect fit! The premise behind "Moving through the Middle" is that is a one stop shop for Middle School Social Science resources. You no longer have to scour the internet, we will have it for you here.

Originally, we were looking at the EDUProtocols after Marlena Heburn session where we learned the Iron Chef. Then, after going to a session at out our County Office with Jon Corrippo, we knew we had to incorporate a few of these. As we continued through the the cohort, we continued to add things that we felt would be "History meeting the 21st Century". We attended a California Social Studies Framework roll-out at Fresno State, and I attended a CUE Rockstar where I learned more about gamification and Project Based Learning.

The experiences in the IEC program definitely impacted my project, I learned so many great things that I want to incorporate. I kept thinking how can I apply this concept to my History classroom, and with just about everything we learned- I was able to apply it. And now that we are coming to a close, I am excited to be able to spend more time taking what I have learned in this program and applying it to my classroom.
