901H-5.4 Reflective Blog Post #2

Reflection:

I am glad that I am on this journey of being an "Innovative Educator". It definitely has been a lot of work, but well worth it. I have made some changes to my instruction based on what I have learned and plan on making more. The only downfall is the lack of time. I am so busy keeping up with the coursework that I have not been able to make all the changes that I have wanted to, but I am working on it. I have also seen great changes with my students- they ask to do Socrative and create pretty awesome sentences based on what instruction I give them. I have also embedded the EduProtocal of Mini-Reports in History. My school has also been very supportive and this weekend I am attending a CUE Rock Star Conference in Napa. Hopefully I will come back with some great ideas to share.

Google + Community:

The Google + Community has been a great resource along my journey. My classmates have posted valuable resources that I will definitely be using. I like that I will have access to the Community after the cohort is completed because I will want to go back and review the resources. Like my colleagues, I have posted resources that may not be directly related to the topic that we are studying at the time, but will be of great value to utilize in the classroom. We have also been able to have interaction with some of the past members and received their input.

Project Status:

For my final project I am still planning on creating some type of website with my colleague based on technology infused inquiry/project based learning of history. I attended a workshop last week introducing the new California History Framework. I have a lot of information to sort through as a few of the sessions were packed with ideas and resources. The first step I need to take is read the chapter of the framework based on the grade level that I teach- that will give me an idea of how to break up my units. After I break up my units, the plan is that we attack it from the beginning and look at what we want to focus on with a pacing schedule in mind. I am actually excited to get started, because my colleague and I both have a lot of great ideas!

Elective Status:

Create a Classroom Website: I have completed all the assignments in this course. I need to email the instructor to check that he is able to grade my discussion board posts before I submit a grade request.

Project Based Learning: I have registered for this course and began to work on the assignments. I really think that most of these assignments will be what I am using on final project and in order to not "reinvent the wheel" I am going to hold off on this class for now, until I have done more research and preparation for my final project.

Kahoot!: This was not the original elective that I choose. I originally choose to take the course on Sketch Up 3D, but after researching the tool, I came to the conclusion that it would probably not be something that I would utilize in my classroom, and if I did; not often. As I reviewed the list, there was not much that was jumping out at my and piquing my interest. I choose Kahoot! because I know this a tool that I would utilize in my classroom and it would engage my students. I have created a few Kahoots before, but now I will be an expert. I also think that Kahoots would be great formative assessments to include in my final project.
