COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
STUDENT COUNCIL
This course is the working arm of the Windsor High School Student Council. Students receive instruction in leadership characteristics, group dynamics, goal setting, organizing, working with other schools within the district and/or community, executing and evaluating activities/projects. Skills in leadership techniques and communication are also emphasized. Students will need to be elected to the council or approved through the interview process to enroll in the class, Grades are hours completed BOTH inside and outside the classroom.

WRITING JOURNALISM
This is a hands-on class designed to teach students to plan, research, and produce podcasts and the newspaper production The Hoot. Students are also responsible for attending the student Journalism conference and raising part of the money necessary to produce the publications. They sell advertising to area merchants, hold fund-raisers, introduce smartphone apps, and advertise the yearbook sales.

STUDENT PUBLICATIONS
Students will learn photography, build writing skills, and gain some graphics and computer knowledge as the yearbook is produced using Java, StudioWorks, and Photoshop. Students are also responsible for attending the student Journalism conference and raising part of the money necessary to produce the publications. They sell advertising to area merchants, hold fund-raisers, introduce smartphone apps, and advertise the yearbook sales.

O.W.L ELECTIVE (OWL-E)
This multi-grade level elective course is an extension/culmination of the Autonomous Learner Model that students were previously introduced to in Middle School. Students enrolled in this course must meet the criteria for identification as gifted as established by the state of Missouri. Advocacy skills will be developed and academic/scholarship competitions explored by interested students. Opportunities to investigate post-high school options, real world problems/issues, or an idea/topic of individual interest will be provided, and students will work alone or in a group to design, plan, implement, and present an ALM Seminar or In-Depth Study of their choosing. Program expectations will advance commensurate with student growth. The curriculum will be individualized based on student need, interest, and other academic course expectations. Mentorships and/or service projects may be incorporated. Students are encouraged to enroll both semesters to allow for development of long term projects. Students may take this semester-long course more than once for elective credit.
(Nominations for the O.W.L. gifted program are sought annually. Interested students may request to be considered for the screening/testing process.)

EXPLORING THE FIELD OF EDUCATION
Classroom hands on experience for future teachers. Potential to be paid through an internship through Jefferson College and be part of a Register Youth Apprenticeship.

FACILITIES
This hands-on course provides students with real-world experience in event setup and facilities management at Windsor. Students will work closely with administration, maintenance, and custodial staff to prepare for all home events, ensuring that venues are properly arranged, safe, and functional. Responsibilities include setting up equipment, coordinating logistics, and problem-solving to meet event needs. Through teamwork and collaboration, students will develop essential skills in organization, communication, and facility operations. This course is ideal for students interested in event planning, sports management, or facility maintenance.

FLEX
A work program for students who have a minimum of 22 credits prior to entering their Senior year. Students must attend school a minimum of 2 instructional hours per school day, maintain a 95% attendance rate, and have verified employment.
