Step 1: Lesson Standards & Learning Goals
In this standard, students rote count by starting at one and counting to 100.
When counting by ones, students need to understand that the next number in the sequence is one more.
When students count by tens they are only expected to master counting on the decade (0, 10, 20, 30, 40 …). Students need to understand that the next number in the sequence is “ten more” (or one more group of ten).
The focus of this standard is on discovering patterns in the number sequence to count.
Note: While this standard, does not involve the recognition of numerals or writing numerals, students who are not yet able to independently demonstrate these skills may benefit from visuals with numbers printed on them such as a number path or a hundreds board (chart).
