Record Video Lectures

Panopto is our video content management system here at Wilkes University. Everything related to video creation, editing, storing and sharing your videos you can do in one simple, easy to use place. Panopto is a robust system with lots of great features such as recording video presentations, storing and managing videos, and live streaming events. You can record from a PC, Mac, or your mobile device. You can record your screen, webcam, and even other inputs like a document camera. Panopto also includes video editing capabilities and automatically generated closed-captioning. Generated captions can be edited to improve accuracy or transcripts can be uploaded as well.

Record a Video:

  1. Log in to D2L and then click into the course.

  2. From your course home page, click Panopto in the Nav Bar. This will drop you into a new window in the Panopto platform.

  3. Click the green Create button at the top and choose Record a New Session.

  4. If this is the first time you are using Panopto, you will be prompted to download the Panopto Recorder. You will only have to do this one time per device.

  5. When the Panopto Recorder launches, you will select your settings before you record. Your course folder will be listed at the top (if it's not correct you can use the drop-down menu to select the correct folder). Give the Recording a Name as well.

  6. Select your Primary Sources. You can choose to use your Webcam (great for Welcome Videos and Discussions) or choose None for no video. Check the Audio for the mic you are using. The level meter next the video preview should move and display green if your microphone is picking up the audio properly.

  7. If you want to record Audio over a PowerPoint presentation or your main screen, check the boxes in Secondary Sources.

  8. When your settings are complete click the red RECORD button at the top. You can minimize the Panopto Recorder and begin your video. There is a Pause button in the Recorder if you need to Pause. When you are done recording click Stop. The recording will stop and begin uploading.

  • TIP: For Windows you can use these hotkeys: F8 Record, F9 Pause and F10 to Stop. On a Mac use Option + Command + R: Start or Stop Recording; Option+Command+P to Pause.
