Concert Band (Full Year)
Grade: 9-12
Prerequisite: Middle school band or instructor approval

Open to all interested students, Concert Band is an introductory level performing ensemble where students will develop skills in large ensemble playing by exploring traditional and contemporary band literature. Previous instrumental experience is not required but highly recommended. All members of the Concert Band will perform with the marching and pep band as well as participate in scheduled concerts, contests, and festivals.
Wind Ensemble (Full Year)
Year: 9-12
Prerequisite: Successful audition

The Wind Ensemble is White River High School’s premier performing ensemble. Its members will perform traditional and contemporary band literature at scheduled concerts, contests, and festivals both on and off campus. All Wind Ensemble members will also perform with the marching and pep band.
Maroon Percussion Ensemble (Full Year)
Year: 9,10
Prerequisite: Middle school band or instructor approval

Percussion Ensemble is a course designed to meet the specific needs of student percussionists. Its members will develop skills in all aspects of percussion technique, including snare rudiments, mallet playing, marching battery, and concert percussion. This ensemble will function as a marching drum-line for football and basketball games, a concert percussion section for the Concert Band, and will perform independently as a percussion ensemble at scheduled concerts and festivals. Previous instrumental experience is not required but highly recommended.
Gold Percussion Ensemble (Full Year)
Year: 11, 12

Jazz Band I and II (Zero-Hour, Full Year)
Grade: 9,10,11,12
Prerequisite: Successful Audition and a willingness to participate in a zero-hour schedule

The Jazz Band is open to all students who are currently enrolled in any performing ensemble at White High School. Instrumentation typically follows the standard big band format: five saxophones, five trumpets, five trombones, and jazz rhythm instruments (piano, bass, drums). Auditions may be held to maintain instrumentation integrity. Rehearsals will concentrate on stylistic playing, including swing, Latin, rock, and funk with an emphasis on improvisation and improving general musicianship. The band meets daily from 6:45 to 7:25 AM and will perform at scheduled concerts and local and out of town festivals.
Guitar I and II (Semester)
Year: 9,10,11,12
Prerequisite: Must have own acoustic guitar

Guitar I is an introductory course focusing on basic guitar technique and maintenance as well as music literacy and theory. Guitar II is a follow-up course to Guitar I. Students will continue to develop guitar technique in multiple styles and explore music literacy, music theory, and improvisation to their performance skills.
