Assessment for performing ensembles is based upon each student participating in a well-rounded selection of musical styles and venues. Grades will be calculated from the following:
20% Musical Foundations: Students will be asked to perform playing quizzes to measure individual skills. These quizzes will assess tone quality, rhythms, and general musicality. There will also be written reflections after major performances
20% Ensemble Skills: This includes, but is not limited to, effective use of sectional time, mini performances in class, and the Chamber Night Concert in January
20% Marching/Pep Band:
· Every student will have the opportunity to participate in a short marching band halftime show in October and several parades throughout the year.
· Every student will participate in pep band at a minimum of 4 basketball games
40% Large Group Performances: These include, but are not limited to; concerts, festivals, out-of-state trips, etc.
Makeup of missed performances
It is understood that all members of the White River Music department realize that ensembles are performance-based and that all performances are co-curricular requirements. Exceptions will be granted for the following:
· Death or severe illness in the immediate family
· Acts of God (severe weather conditions, fire, etc.)
· School District’s Drug & Alcohol policy
In the event of an absence that does not meet the above exceptions, a percentage of the grade can be made up by the student creating and submitting an audio or video recording of their concert music within seven days of the missed performance.
All performances are scheduled and published at the beginning of the school year, and it is the responsibility of the student to get that schedule to their guardians, employers, or any persons or activities requiring their time.
