Things to Know About Writing in My Classes:

  • All papers MUST BE TURNED IN ON PAPER COPIES!!! If you email a copy in, it will delay loss of points if you have printer trouble or technical issues, but an electronic copy WILL NOT BE GRADED.

  • Turnitin.com is a good source for proofreading and verifying quotes from others. It will be an instructional tool to explain when to cite and when not to.... and although I don't plan on plagiarism from my students, I know it occurs from time to time. If we suspect it, we'll use turnitin.com among other resources, to submit referrals to the office.

  • Grammarly and other proofreading sites are your friends, any papers that are not proofread AND edited (we'll go over the difference in class...) will lose partial credit. You work hard, so treat your paper the way you expect me to.

  • I expect that you are doing your best on your writing... so I will evaluate where you are for your grade (numbers and letters,) and offer feedback for where your academic writing should go (1-6 or 1-9 rubric.) Please take the advice.

  • There are specific things to do for writing a non-fiction social studies essay... go to the Resources for Writing page for your subject.

First Day (we'll do this together, so if you don't know how, everyone will help.)

On the first day in class, please do the following:

  1. Go here: The TEST. Watch, then return to this page.

  2. Then, go here, then come back to this page.

  3. Be sure that your network password, g-mail password, etc. works.

  4. Confirm that there is a file in your Goggle account for the class you are taking with me. (yes, you have to create it...)

  5. Noodletools is your friend. When in doubt, cite a source. Also, on your home computer or phone (WPS Chromebooks and internet access don't allow this) use a citation app, like EasyBib or Bibcitation Bibliography & Citation Generator are easy to use.

  6. Create a template for your work with a correct heading and save it in your folder. Do this NOW...

  7. Add the ''ParentSquare.com' app to whatever you check most (phone, etc.)

  8. Printing from a desktop computer is through 'MFP_PrintAnywhere' in the print screen, from a Chromebook is the CloudPrint link on the print screen.

  9. Sign up for Google Classroom with the link provided in class. There is a good site for issues you have with using GC here: support.google.com

We'll use these gadgets regularly in class, beginning with the first unit.

Coming up: For UCONN students, in addition to the above list, please be sure that your netID works and you have it with you in school. (On your phone or in a Google doc is a good idea.)
