Syllabus Mrs. Hom‐Mandell Rm.40
Course Description: This course is designed for students serious about art, those who may be considering art school after graduation, or those who simply enjoy the art experience. This class will be introduced to a range of artists and research artists that inspire them in beginning to create a focused body of work. Students will also be introduced to a variety of social justice themes which will support their steps in becoming creative civic leaders:
Tikkun Olam (Hebrew, repairing the world through social justice/action)
Weiji (Chinese character meaning both crisis/opportunity)
Loss/Mourning
Strength
Renewal
Hands-on art related field trips are scheduled throughout the year.
Students will be graded on the following: Attendance, Effort & Citizenship: 40% Projects ,portfolio, and inspiration boards, personal Google Art site: 60 %
Sketch book and Inspiration board policy: The visual arts department believes that successful teaching and learning take place beyond the classroom.
Required Materials: Agenda book, sketchbook, personal GOOGLE site, portfolio, projects and ready to learn attitude.
Attendance policy: According to WPS policy ,three unexcused tardies equal an absence, and five or more absences per term equals an “N” or incomplete.

Please note that the above is a sample of projects that students may choose from. Students in Art 3,4 can also propose their project ideas to teacher for approval.
In Art 3,4- Students are required to create their own GOOGLE art site which visually records their process, projects, reflection and inspirational resources. Please ask your child to view their site.
