Abstract expressive watercolor design

Studio Art 1: Watercolor abstract designs

Students created a design with abstract shapes and/or inspired imagery. They implemented their knowledge of glazing with watercolor over the shapes/imagery to create new colors and more complex shapes.

Design should demonstrate:

1. Variety of color value scales

2. At least one alternative technique: (salt, sponge, saran wrap, wax resist)

3. Inspired by music and movement: Wassily Kandinsky, tessellations or optical illusions
