Filling out a competency slip

Stepping Stone Explained:

In this stepping stone, I will learn about competency slips and how to fill them out to communicate with staff, students and parents.

I will be filling out competency slips all the time! It will be so important to communicate correctly with students, parents, and staff.

1️⃣ What is a competency slip?

A competency slip communicates 2 things: a student has mastered competencies and they are done with a studio.

Once students have completed every skill to the needed level and ratings have been entered into Slate, you will fill out a competency slip. This is used for a few reasons:

  1. Students need to be celebrated when they have mastered competencies

  2. Counselors and Principals can celebrate with students and make sure all the credits are added to PowerSchool

  3. The student can communicate with guardians easily, showing the slip and explain what it means.

Back of All Slips

Teachers do not need to worry about the back of the slip. It is only for counselors and administration.

Teachers and students don't need to talk about credits at all, only learning and mastering competencies.

Example of a Competency Slip filled out and ready to go to admin and counselors:

The only ratings/grades students will receive will be how they are rated on the continua.

Demo earned 81 points over 10 skills. 81/10 = 8.1

Demo's score for the studio is an 8.1

2️⃣ How does this convert to a grade?
